Google's New SEO Rules and Tips

Google has recently made some pretty significant changes in its ranking algorithm. The latest update, dubbed by Google forum users as "Allegra", has left some web sites in the dust and catapulted others to top positions. Major updates like this can happen a few times a year at Google, which is why picking the right Search Engine Optimization (SEO) company can make the difference between online success and failure. However, it becomes an increasingly difficult decision when SEO firms themselves are also suffering from the Allegra update.

Over-optimization may have played the biggest part in the dropping of SEO-guy.com from the top 50 Google results. Filtering out web sites that have had readability sacrificed for optimization is a growing trend at Google. It started with the Sandbox Effect in late 2004, where relatively new sites were not being seen at all in the Google results even with good keyword placement in content and incoming links. Many thought it was a deliberate effort by Google to penalize sites that had SEO work done. It's a few months later and we see many of the 'sandboxed' web sites finally appearing well for their targeted keywords.

With 44 occurrences of 'SEO' on the relatively short home page of SEO-guy.com, and many of them in close proximity to each other, the content reads like a page designed for search engine robots, not the visitor. This ranking shift should come as no surprise to SEO professionals as people have been saying it for years now: Sites should be designed for visitors, not search engine robots. Alas, some of us do not heed this is and feels the pain when search engines finally make their move.

One aspect of SEO is that it also affects link popularity development. After observing the effects of strictly relevant link exchanges on many of our client's sites recently, we've noticed incredibly fast #1 rankings on Google. It seems Google may be looking out for links pages designed for the sole purpose of raising link popularity and devalues the relevance of the site.

After all, if a links page on a real estate site has 100 outgoing links to pharmacy sites, there must be a lot of content on that page completely unrelated to real estate. Not until now has that been so detrimental to a site's overall relevance to search terms. It goes back to the old rule of thumb: Make your visitors the top priority. Create a resources page that actually contains useful links for your site users. If you need to do reciprocal linking then keep it relevant and work those sites in with other good resources.

Keeping up with the online search world can be overwhelming for the average small business owner or corporate marketing department. Constant Google changes, MSN coming on the scene in a big way, and all the hype around the new Become.com shopping search function can make heads spin. But just keep things simple and follow the main rules that have been around for years. Google, as well as other search engines, won't ever be able to ignore informative, well written content along with good quality votes from other web sites.

In this article we will explain to you the tips & tricks of Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Although every search engine spiders and bots work differently to retrieve the search results, most of them do follow the same rules to present an accurate and precise output in the search queries.

We can divide all the SEO work into six simple steps for a successful optimization campaign.

1. Identifying and understanding the nature of the business needs

Firstly, you can analyse and identify the nature of the business and its targeted audience.  Then, collect completed information on the website you will be working on. This information would help you saving a lot of effort while optimizing your website in the future.

Next, check for all possible opportunities and review your competitor websites operating in the same market space. This is a very important step for
SEO and should not be neglected as you need to know who are your competitors are before you can use SEO as an advantage.

2. Make a list of targeted keywords

Choose relevant and popular keywords for optimizing a website effectively. This is something that will directly reflect your efforts.  The right keywords can give you a good business deal and targeted traffic whilst the wrong keywords will get all your efforts in vain. So be real careful while choosing those keywords. For those who wish to relieve this tedious effort you can engage a
SEO agency like WebClicks Singapore to do this job for you.

3. Designing the website

Design a website in a manner so that looks feel good for your viewers. Make sure all the internal links, codes and validations are working correctly. A well-designed website becomes easy to use and also gets return traffic on it.

You might have heard of the 3 clicks system to get you to your desired page. The same concept are used by the search engines. Your website needs to be easy to navigate and have updated rich contents which is useful. Writing of contents also known as copy writing can be outsourced to SEO agencies.

4. Writing the meta tags and contents

Description and keywords meta tags helps a lot in ranking high because all the search engines looks it at least once for getting the information about a page. Put your all important information in description meta tag which should not be more then 255 characters long. You can place all possible keywords and phrase using keywords meta tags. Be sure to put those in priority in the first few words of the tags, as this is useful.

5. Relevant Title

Give a relevant and small title which could be between 50 to 64 characters. Most of the search engines gives importance to title tag while indexing results. The title should be of an understandable manner and suitable for the primary language of your targeted search engines for optimal
SEO results.

6. Directory and search engine submission

After completing all the five vital phases listed above, you can submit the website URL to major search engine and directories. It will take some time to list your site URL.This process is also known as off-site
SEO, back-links or Link Building. This is very manual process which will require patience.

RSS Feeds and its importance to Link Building for SEO

You always hear that that one of the process of doing SEO is by Link Building. This is very true indeed, but your Link Building efforts could go down the drain if the search engines do not index these websites which you build the links in. This is akin to having a website without any submission to search directories having them unsearchable on any search engines.

RSS Feeds also known as Atom or Live Feeds, are normally done on RSS Feeds websites and Blogs. There are 2 ways in which you can do to get those backlinks indexed for your SEO. One popular way is to submit the backlinks to the Top 10 RSS Feeds websites. But these RSS Feeds websites normally do not allow you to submit more than 10 links whereas the
Link Building which you do is towards hundreds and thousands of websites.

So the other method which we encourage is to use RSS Feeds on your website together with other blogs. You might not know it, but search engines love blogs. Blogs are indexed daily and sometimes even hourly for some major one.

Firstly, create a blog at blogspot.com or blogger.com. We recommend blogspot.com as this belongs to Google, the world’s most popular search engine. Give the blog a very niche name, or a name which is very cheesy, you can use popular keywords as names for these blogs. For example, gold prices is dropping or recession is doom etc..These are good and important keywords which are being searched daily.

Do not use create very high competitive keywords like make money, fast money etc. as your title as the high competition forces these sites to be in 2nd priority. For instance, since Apple has launched its iphone4s, you might want to create a blog name related to iphone4s. Like iphone4s-features, or iphone4s-singapore, or iphone4s-jailbreak.

Next is to create some good articles and juicy news inside and submit as posts. These posts which you will submit are known as RSS Feeds. Now if you can recall, we mentioned earlier on
Link Building and indexing of backlinks? Now create a separate post with a list of all the links which you have build a backlink in like www.webclicks.sg. Do make sure the links are of do-follow, means it is clickable and exclude any commas or any punctuations. Submit each backlink per line like regular posts. The search engines love blogs and will index these backlinks which you have created.

Lastly, go to any Top 10
RSS Feeds websites and submit your blogs to these RSS sites, e.g. squido, technocrati etc..

You are all done up!  Soon your backlinks will indexed and realised! You should climb up the rankings in about 3 to 4 weeks time. Should you want to know a faster way to index your backlinks, you can contact WebClicks Singapore.

So what is the difference between how Good & Bad Guys implement SEO? Interested to find out the Good Guys do it? Then read on.

We always hear people talking about SEO with the bad guys on how they use black hat methods to optimize their websites for better search engines rankings. But we do not hear people talking about the good guys which do SEO differently.

There are many ways to do
SEO as there are different definitions of SEO. A simple explanation of SEO is to bring traffic to your website that actually brings in conversion. There is also another definition of SEO which is the trend nowadays where people want their keywords to be found on the search engines. For instance, WebClicks Singapore specializes in
SEO services targeting the Singapore market. We brainstorm our choice of keywords so that people can find us on the Internet. We need to be certain as there could be many keywords variations which people could search on the Internet and predicting their search patterns is very hard, even with the assistance of what search engines has indexed.

The examples of possible keywords variations are:
    SEO

SEO could be a big bill to you!

SEO with Google+

Google+ the new social feature from Google aims to change how internet users share content. So how does this affects your website on being found on the Internet?

We have heard of the Google+ which allows us to “like” aka “+1” and share with our friends. This feature is not new and looks very similar to that of the “like” or “share” features in Facebook or the “follow” feature of Twitter.

The only difference is that with Google+ you will need to add your friends to your “Google Circles”, which gives users the ability to share content with specified groups, or "circles" of people. As users build these circles they will be able to see the files, links, web, pages, music that is being liked and shared. These contents will also have a +1'd in Google's search engine results pages which could be ranked as relevant.

Will SEO be affected with Google+?

SEO is the acronym for Search Engine Optimization which aims to display results based on organic traffic search queries. This also means that websites which have relevant pages to the users which bring up the ranking of the search queries. By adding a +1 to a search results and sharing with your friends, you are indicating to Google as a search engine provider that this search results is good and relevant and why you should be sharing with your friends and others. This also reinforces Google’s policy of creating the best user experience for internet users.

Facebook and Twitter have also high influences on search engine rankings for websites. Some indications showed that re-tweets of a link on Twitter affects how the page is indexed on the search engines. The social shares from Facebook likes also affects on how the page is indexed in a similar way.

Most professional SEO agencies in Singapore do not want their clients to know this as a fact as they are afraid that customers will implement SEO on their own. But simple as it may looks, Google+ is just now one of the considering factors of SEO and the recommendation is to implement Google +1 button in your website to start ranking well.

If you have a Google account, +1 on our website to show that we mean something to you!

Choosing the right SEO Company in Singapore

Looking for the right SEO company to work with in Singapore? Then here are some tips to get you started with!

It has always been a great effort to find the right company to optimize your website for you and sometimes getting the right company is not just about saving a few dollars but the frustration that they do not achieve the targets they promise to achieve. As we are based in Singapore, I will share about the various SEO companies in Singapore.

SEO is the acronym for Search Engine Optimization. This means improving your website prominence so that it can be found organically in the search engines i.e. Google, Yahoo or Bing. Another meaning of SEO is to bring increased web traffic to your website where you can leverage on and get conversions.

When we find a
SEO company, we are concerned with 2 main things namely:
  • How can the SEO company deliver to my expectations
  • Its value for services
As in SEO there will always be recurring costs, and these recurring costs are the maintenance fees which are going to be charged monthly. The purpose of having this maintenance is so that the SEO company will continue to optimize your choice of keywords to higher ranking and maintain the positions and bring up the traffic of the website.

The price factor of
SEO that many companies charges comprised of the period of implementation which can range from $200,000 to as low as $8500 for a 20 page website and the maintenance fee. The maintenance fee is varies between a 10-15% of the total budget and is paid monthly. Payment of the maintenance fee normally comes in only after 4 to 6 months after SEO has been implemented and after Key Performance Indices (KPI) has been reached.

SEO professionals in general will tell you a common thing which is websites based on flash cannot be optimized, pages too little cannot optimize, website too new cannot optimize and a lot more. They will expect your domain to be a few years of age and already indexed by the search engines. But this is the lazy way of how a SEO company will perform.

Real Life Case-Study

Basics of SEO, Myths & Tutorial

Have you heard of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), or curious of its Myths and Facts? Then let this article show you a practical lesson on it.
Basics of SEO

First we talk about SEO. SEO is the acronym for search engine optimization. SEO is a process done by SEO consultants to optimize the content; the source codes (HTML) and also the structure of a website, so that it remains as search engine friendly.
SEO can be done in many ways, the legal way will be known as the white hat SEO and the illegal and unorthodox way is called the black hat way. Today in the basics of SEO, the best way is to do in it is white hat and not many agencies practice that.

Myths of
SEO

People say that SEO you have to stuff a lot of keywords to your meta keywords tags. Studding too many will be spam and search engines have already excluded that as a consideration for SEO, so we will not take about meta keywords.

The next myth is to repeat the keywords many times in the content, but this is also spamming, anything related to spamming is not a factor of SEO.

Basics of
SEO Tutorial

Have a good page URL, for example you have a page called promotions of SEO, do not use the URL with the address www.yourwebsitedomain.com/pageid-687 but instead, use more specific English in the page URL process example www.yourwebsitedomain.com/Promotions-SEO. Notice that i have used the English word for the website address instead of leaving it as the random generated page URL.

Next is to have a good description and title of your website. You will need to know a little bit of HTML for this. After you have created a page, right click on the page and click on view source. You will see a chunk of codes, this is called HTML. Notice at the top there will be a portion which says Title:. And Page Description:. Always ensure that the correct title and description is used for into the page as this is what the search engine crawls and places it as results in the search engines results page. Ok I have a Promotion on SEO page, so my page title will naturally be, SEO Promotions. The important keyword I am emphasizing here is SEO so that goes in the first word of the title. Now for the page description I will put in “SEO Promotions in Singapore now available at WebClicks.sg Do check out our website for the best practice of SEO. Notice that I have repeated the keyword of choice in the description. This is important for a good SEO.

Next is the images, every time you go to a website you see an image, but sometimes the image doesn’t load and you are wondering what image is it there. Normally people will leave it as the default such as imageoo1.jpg etc., but its best to provide an “alternate” text, also known as “ALT” and name the image properly like SEO Promotions Image 1. This way the search engine can see clearly what you are showing as the search engines read the text and not the images.

These SEO techniques are the basics for anyone who are keen on SEO and would want to know the basics of it.
